All of our gates can be automated either immediately
upon installation or at a later date. If the gates are to be automated later it will be necessary to
remove some of the manual hardware prior to automation, i.e. latch and drop-bolts.
Swing Gates
There are essentially two types of operators.
a) Mounted onto the back of the gate. We recommend that these are mounted onto the bottom
rail of the gate frame. The connection must be by bolted bracket with face plate. The gates
need to be mounted within 80mm of the back corner of the posts or pillars.
b) Mounted under the gate ("In ground" operators.) There are recommended where for practical
or aesthetic reasons the operators can't be mounted on the back of the gates. They are more
expensive.
With both types of swing operators the gates should be fitted with a drive stop in the closed
position. Sometimes stops are also required in the open position.
Sliding Gates
We set the gate up with a bottom track and top roller system so that it can be
manually rolled or shut. The automation company needs only to supply and install their motor
and rack system along with whatever controls the client requires (normally remote controllers
that can be activated from the car.)
Electronic Communication and Operations
Magnetic locks can be fitted to most gates. These, and automatic gate openers, can be operated
remotely using radio transmitters (pendent style remote controls), keypads, computer systems and buttons.
For added security there are intercoms with integrated video cameras, swipe card and electronic
key activators. Photoelectric cells, or vehicle detector loops can be installed to further automate
gate opening and closing.
Power Sources
Gate activation is normally driven off wiring coupled into the property's electric system (240v/120.)
Where it is not possible (or too costly) to connect mains power, a combination of radio signal,
solar panel and batteries may be used.
Automation Companies
There are many gate automation companies listed under gates and gate fittings in the Yellow Pages.
We have worked successfully with a number of automation companies that are familiar with automating
wooden gates, and know our products. For referral to these companies, please contact us.
