All Wooden Gates Waiuku gates are hand built from premium materials by craftman joiners. Each gate is individually
crafted to the specific size and design requirements of the order. Gates can be factory finished, or supplied "natural"
for customer finishing.
Technical aspects of our gates:
Automation
All gates are specifically designed and built to enable automation. Automation can be installed on
the gate at the outset or later as the need arises. No alteration to the gate is required.
Colour Selection
Our paint and finishing department can normally apply any colour required
including matching to existing house and fence colours. The Wooden Gates Resene Classic range
of colours is available with Wooden Gates White being the norm. Other colours or paint ranges
are available, with pricing on request.
Construction
All standard gates are built to 70mm thick frames and full mortice and tenon joints. Mortice and tenon
joints are the proven and timeless technique that ensures the gate is dimensionally stable and built for
a lifetime. In addition, we use marine grade epoxy resins and stainless steel fixings. End grains and
joints are sealed with our own specially formulated compound.
Custom Design
Wooden Gates does not just make 'standard gates', we offer a specialised design service coupled
with experienced installers to ensure that the finished, installed product meets all your
expectations.
Finishes
Depending on the timber type the gates can be left natural (cedar, kwila) or finished in a stain or
paint. The type of finish must be specified at the outset. While there are a number of stains and paints available on the market, we prefer to use:
CD50 for staining, Sikkens varnishes or Resene range of enamel or acrylic gloss paints.
Resene Enamacryl - We apply a 4 coat spray finish to factory finished gates. The gates are sanded,
primed, minor blemishes filled and then finished with three additional coats to provide a superb
finish.
CD50 A waterbased stain available in a wide range of colours. CD50 finished gates should be
stained before installation.
Sikkins - A high quality, UV protecting exterior varnish.
Hardware
Much of our hardware range has been developed by us specifically for our gates to give long and
trouble free use. New Zealand's coastal regions are particularly corrosive which is why our hardware
is either hot dip galvanised or stainless steel, this far outlasts standard zinc plate, paint or powder coat finishes.
Brassware such as street numbers, letterbox hoods and
slots are provided in an unlaquered finish to weather naturally, thus avoiding blemishes and
peeling. Lacquered brass fittings can be supplied on request.
Proven Design and Construction
All standard gates are thoroughly tested and proven for their application and use. Custom designs are
produced only after our design and construction experts are satisfied that the gate will meet all
requisites for its purpose. Design and construction standards also apply to the hardware used in a
wooden gates construction. Design and construction standards also apply to the
hardware'.
Rising or Uneven Ground
Where a driveway is uneven, rises or falls, or slopes from one side to the other, our design
team can design the gate, and the hinging to ensure functional operation in opening and closing,
while retaining the aesthetic looks of the gate and entrance.
Timbers
Dry tanilised pine for paint finishes, Cedar for dark finishes, Cedar or Kwila for natural finishes and
requested timbers for special effects. All timber is specified as premium grade to maximise strength,
durability and looks. Pine is H3 treated for above ground application, H4 is used for ground contact
application (eg. posts)
Wooden Gates specialises in gates
There are many different automation, electrical, communication systems available that are best handled
by specialists. We refer to automation specialists that we feel meet our high standards of product
specification, installation and after sales service. Refer to Automation page.
Swing or Sliding
Most driveway gates can be hinged or mounted to open inward, outward or slide left or right.
Tradesmen
As modern joinery methods and massed produced products leave the industry short of skills, Wooden Gates
finds itself in a fortunate position. As most of our products are custom built, the craftsman we employ
have to be highly skilled and universal in approach. Many are qualified joiners and as keen supporters of
the apprenticeship system, we encourage all our employees to take this step. We also have a proud record
of top performing apprentices which is a testament to the work we do.
5 Year No Sag Guarantee
To back up our quality, we offer a five year no sag warranty so you can rest assured you have made
a sound investment. A full guarantee applies to gates finished and installed to our
specifications.
